As cold plunging continues to spike in popularity, more and more companies enter the market looking for a piece of the pie. This is good for buyers…and bad. There’s everything from poorly-designed products to outright scammers.
With new brands popping up weekly and influencers pushing flashy deals, it’s easy to get swept up in the hype and pressure to buy. But when you’re spending $3,000+ on a tub, you can’t afford to take chances and gamble with your money.
As a cold plunge tub company who's been around for a while, we’ve seen all the red flags (including impersonators pretending to be ReGen 🙄).

And that’s just scratching the surface. We’ve also seen companies making false claims about certifications, and brands using gimmicky marketing to cover up poor quality.
This “buyer beware” guide is here to help you spot the top 5 red flags and make sure your investment is protected.
1. Don’t Believe Everything You See Online
Anyone can launch an Instagram account, hire influencers, and make a product look trustworthy, especially using AI, bots, and purchased fake reviews.
What you don’t see is that many influencers are making hefty retainers, commission, and getting free products to post which means, of course they’re going to hype whatever brand pays them the most.
Always do your own research, instead of taking social media promotions at face value.
Cross-check reviews on Reddit cold plunge threads, Google, and forums where bots and paid media are less likely to manipulate the conversation. Look for consistent, real feedback across multiple platforms - written by real humans.
2. Watch Out for False Certifications and Claims
We’ve seen competitors claiming UL certifications or other safety marks they simply don’t have. These false claims are rampant in the cold plunge space and can put both you and your money at risk. Always double-check certifications directly through the issuing body or request proof from the company before you buy.
If a brand is legitimate, they’ll be transparent. They’ll provide documentation, answer questions, and have nothing to hide. If they’re hesitant to provide any proof of certifications, you should be immediately skeptical.
3. Confirm the Company is Real With a Phone Call
Spending thousands of dollars online without confirming the company is risky. At a minimum, the brand should have a working email and, ideally, a phone number you can call. Pick up the phone and test it for yourself, make sure you can actually reach someone or a company hotline before you purchase.
If you can’t get in touch before you buy, imagine what it’ll be like if you need support after you’ve spent your money…
4. Look Beyond Giveaways and Discounts
Some companies are constantly running giveaways or “huge sales” that never seem to end and appear too good to be true. That’s a red flag for two reasons:
- It often means their prices were hyper-inflated to begin with
- Massive margins usually equal cheap materials and low-quality builds
Just sayin’... 🤷🏼♂️
Even worse: some brands will even run deep discounts, sell through inventory, and then disappear leaving customers abandoned without support and a cold plunge tub that’s less than perfect. Don’t be lured in by flashy savings. Consistency and reputation matter more than a quick deal, especially in the cold plunge space.
5. Ask for References, Especially for Commercial Use
If you’re buying a tub for home use, reviews and verifying certifications and contact info may be enough.
However, if you’re outfitting a gym, spa, or wellness center, you need to go further in your research. Ask for real life references from customers who’ve owned the product for months or years. If a brand can’t provide them, that’s a red flag.
A plunge that breaks down in a residential backyard is inconvenient for sure, but a commercial failure could damage your business and your reputation.
