Increased Oversight of Commercial Cold Plunges Is a Good Thing

By Adam Smith, Founder of ReGen Total Wellness

I came across an Instagram post this week about a cold plunge facility in Florida that was forced to close because of increased scrutiny from the local health department regarding its cold plunge systems.

First off, I never like seeing a business shut its doors. As a small business owner, I know firsthand how much time, money, and passion goes into opening a wellness facility.

But with that said...

I think increased oversight of commercial cold plunges is a good thing.

That might surprise some people, especially coming from someone who manufactures commercial cold plunges. But I've been saying this for years.

The commercial cold plunge industry has exploded over the last few years, and unfortunately, a lot of products were never designed for commercial use. Many are simply residential tubs marketed as "commercial" with very little thought given to water quality, turnover rates, sanitation, safety, or long-term reliability.

When you have dozens, or even hundreds of people sharing the same body of water every week, the stakes are much higher than a tub sitting in someone's backyard.

This isn't just about keeping water cold.

It's about protecting public health.

We've Seen It Firsthand

We've spoken with facilities that were sold systems with no meaningful filtration. Others had inadequate water turnover, no automated chemical control, questionable plumbing practices, or little understanding of what local health departments actually require.

The reality is that many manufacturers stop at the loading dock. Once the equipment ships, the customer is left to figure everything else out.

That's not how we operate.

Oversight Raises the Standard

Good regulations don't hurt good manufacturers… they expose bad ones.

Health departments asking questions about water turnover, sanitation, anti-entrapment protection, chemical monitoring, documentation, and operational procedures isn't something we fear.

It's something we welcome.

Because if a commercial cold plunge is going to be used by the public, it should meet a higher standard.

The end result is safer facilities, healthier customers, and a stronger reputation for the cold plunge industry as a whole.

Every Jurisdiction Is Different

One thing we've learned is that there isn't a universal playbook.

Every city, county, and state can interpret requirements differently. One health department may focus heavily on turnover rates, while another may require additional anti-entrapment protection, automated chemical monitoring, or specific plumbing configurations.

That's why there isn't a "one-size-fits-all" commercial cold plunge.

Every project deserves its own approach.

More Than a Manufacturer

At ReGen, we don't just build equipment.

We work alongside owners, architects, contractors, engineers, and health departments to help configure a system that aligns with each jurisdiction's requirements.

Over the years, we've helped customers navigate challenges involving:

  • Commercial filtration and water turnover requirements
  • Automated pH and sanitizer monitoring and dosing
  • Anti-entrapment protection and approved safety solutions
  • Plumbing and drain configurations
  • Technical documentation for plan reviews
  • Questions from local health departments during permitting

We're not here to argue with inspectors.

We're here to help customers open their doors.

The Industry Is Growing Up

I believe commercial cold plunges are here to stay.

As more facilities open and more people experience the benefits of cold water therapy, increased oversight is inevitable, and honestly, it's healthy for the industry.

Manufacturers will have to build better products.

Facility owners will have more confidence in what they're buy.

Customers will have safer, cleaner experiences.

Everybody wins.

If you're planning a commercial wellness facility, don't choose a manufacturer based solely on price.

Choose a partner who understands what happens after the equipment arrives.

Because getting a cold plunge delivered is easy.

Getting your facility approved, opened, and operating successfully- that's where the right partner makes all the difference.
